Ask your hygienist
We practice what we preach. In fact, proof of our commitment to optimal preventive oral health care can be seen in our wonderful hygienists who are licensed primary oral health care professionals. Their goal is to help you to achieve and maintain optimal oral health through diagnostic assessment, prevention, and education. Here’s how your hygienist develops your personalized dental hygiene plan of care based on your needs.
Assessment – Reviewing your medical and dental history. Examining your teeth for decay, visually and with radiographs. Examining your gum tissue. Assessing your biting, chewing, and swallowing patterns. Evaluating your dental readiness for procedures including cosmetic smile enhancements. And, reassessing your overall treatment.
Prevention – Screening for oral cancer with clinical measurements, radiographs, and other assessment methods. Applying fluoride and sealants. Cleaning and scaling teeth to remove plaque, tartar, and surface stains.
Education – Instruction about brushing and flossing. Counseling about diet and lifestyle and their relationship to oral health. Explanation of dental treatments, orthodontics, periodontal therapy, and cosmetic procedures.
Your hygienist is always happy to answer questions about your personalized plan of care which is imperative to your oral health. After all, proper home care including brushing, flossing, and healthy eating are a crucial part of preventive dentistry. So, make sure to ask even a seemingly unimportant question. You may be surprised how important it really is!
Meet Our Doctors
Dr. Paul Dhillon
Dr. Paul Dhillon with his family
Originally from India, Dr. Dhillon came to Canada at the age of 13. He received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Manipal University, India in 2009, then received his National Dental Examination Board of Canada's certification in 2014.
When he was a Certified Dental Assistant, Dr. Dhillon was enthralled by how patients would tell the dentist that their outlook on life had changed because of the care they received. This was the moment he knew he wanted to become a dentist. Delivering an excellent patient experience is important to him, and in every case, he is driven by the end goal. “It’s extremely rewarding when a patient appreciates my work and they have new-found confidence,” he says.
Outside The Office
When he’s not using his skills to improve smiles, Dr. Dhillon enjoys working out (and flexing his biceps from time to time!), travelling, and spending quality time with his wife Raman and their three girls. Hawaii is his favourite tropical destination. He regularly gives back by lending his time to provide dental care to those in need.
Dr. Marcus Lo
Dr. Lo was born in Hong Kong and moved to Vancouver at a young age. Having always dreamed of working in healthcare, Dr. Lo completed his BSc in Pharmacology in 2013 and DMD in 2018. Dr. Lo has received several awards among which are Dr. Irving E. Snider Prize, Dr Bud Sipko Family Fund Scholarship 2016, NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award, UBC Dean's Honour List, President's Entrance Scholarship 2008, UBC Trek Excellence Scholarship.
As a general dentist, Dr. Lo’s main goal is to provide quality care to his patients. He is committed to educating each person in his chair about their oral health and providing solutions in a comfortable environment. He has a passion for oral surgery.
Outside The Office
Dr. Lo is a firm believer in evidence-based dentistry, and, in order to provide the best care possible, stays abreast of current literature and technologies. In addition, Dr. Lo likes to give back by regularly volunteering at local dental events and going on multiple mission trips abroad. “I went on a dental mission trip to Jamaica to provide extractions to the underserved population,” he says. As for his favourite pastimes, Dr. Lo enjoys skiing, volleyball, and badminton.
Dr. Ava Vali Sichani
Originally from Iran, Dr. Sichani was a practising pedodontist for over 4 years before immigrating to Canada. She received her Doctor of Dental Medicine from Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, Iran in 2009 and then her Master in Science in Pediatric Dentistry from Isfahan Azad University Iran in 2015. She cleared her Canadian exams in 2019.
As a child, Dr. Sichani found it difficult to go to the dentist. As she reflects on that time, the thing she finds most rewarding about her profession is being able to make dental visits fun, positive experiences for kids. “I am passionate about all aspects of dentistry and am particularly fond of working with children and adolescents,” she says. “I highly value my patients’ trust in me. My goal is to encourage my patients to achieve and maintain optimal oral health in a calm and relaxed environment.”
